These videos are a bit older but for those who don't see Madelyn much I had to share how this child of ours gets around. When she became mobile Madelyn didn't really feel that she wanted to do the normal kid crawl instead she felt this would be a better alternative.
Then we went onto this
Now we have a walker (well somewhat) taking a few steps to get around. Watching her get around like this was so exciting and funny to watch. And if you have any questions on the directions she would go when doing the "butt scoot" yes, the little girl could go backwards.

“In this corner weighing in at 19lbs you have MADELYN “the bug” VANDERVOOORRRTTTT and in this corner weighing in just shy of 40lbs ROXIE “Roo Roo” VANDERVOOORRRT”
I wasn't able to capture the moment on camera but I cant pass up telling this story.
A few nights ago there was nothing on TV or really much going on after Madelyn went to bed so to keep us entertained Matthew and Roxie decided to play a good game of tug of war with an old sock. It was great to watch Rox go nuts trying to get the sock off of Matthew's foot and then only to shake her head and try to "kill" it after she succeeded.
Now, on a normal day I’ll keep an extra basket around and throw in the socks that need matched while Im folding laundry because Madelyn finds enjoyment from taking the clothes I just folded out of the basket. The sock basket keeps her entertained long enough for me to get some things done. (funny how it’s the small things in life that make her happy)
During the day the pups will sleep and just lay around not being bothered that the little 11 month old is all over the place but two days after Matthew and Roxie played tug of war with a sock, laundry day all of a sudden became really interesting to Roxie. So picture the sweet little girl playing quietly with a basket of socks, taking them out, and putting them back, dumping it over and pushing the basket across the floor….Until the Roxie comes along. Whatever Madelyn is doing now becomes a game for Rox. Madelyn picks up a sock, Roxie is there to take it from her, Madelyn finds another and Roxie is right there to take that one from her. By the third time this happens Madelyn has had enough of the bully and decides to hold on a little tighter to the sock and this becomes a full blown tug of war.
Needless to say the fight didn’t last long due to the fact the pup had a weight advantage but I must say the little girl put up a fight for sure.
I don’t know if this will continue on but im thinking I won’t stop it if it does. It will only make Madelyn not put up with Roxie’s antics.
I do like the fact that they are playing with one another. It will only be a matter of time when poor Roxie will get what is coming to her..Madelyn will only get more of a imagination and only get stronger....You mark my word, in a few years I'll have pictures of Roxie dressed up in clothes, hats and shoes that my lovely daughter has put on her.

Madelyn's Eye Status
I know that I normally update on funny things that the pups and Madelyn do and trust me there have been some funny stories recently. I will do that in my next post I promise. Instead I would like to give a little update on Madelyn.
As most of you know, Madelyn was born with a blocked tear duct in her left eye. The doctor had informed us that she might grow out of it by time she reached 9 months but unfortuatly she didn't. 2 weeks ago we had to take her to a specialist and have a probe stuck down her little eye to clear the blockage. She was a trooper! Smiling and giggling by time we got home but non the less it was heartbreaking to see her little eye all red, leaky, and bloody.
When we got back from the doctor. You can kind of see the redness in her eye
Well I guess the probe down her eye didn't clear it up and unfortuantly she will have to undergo another procedure. On June 21st they will have to stick another probe and ballon down her eye while she is asleep to try and clear it up again.
The great thing about Madelyn is due to the fact that she's been born with her eye goopy and runny she really doesn't know anything different. And I have to say she takes going to the doctor like a champ. Flirty and playful everytime we go!
Other than that, we are all doing very well! And by the way, mark your calenders for July 23rd since SOMEONE IS TURNING 1!! Does anyone else think that this first year just flew by?

A New Family Activity
One word.....BUBBLES!
The five of us are abosolutly sick of the rainy days and the muddy yard so what do we do? We break out the bubbles and have endless fun watching Madelyn giggle at Roxie.

Madelyn's First Roadtrip
When Matthew and I first started dating we took a trip up north to Westfield, NY. It is just a small town right on Lake Erie and the week that we spent there was a blast.

This past weekend we were able to take Madelyn along with us to see the Habigs (my grandpa's brothers family) and of course we had to take her to see the country side up at Noble. They were having some kind of fundraiser for a local school and had a small jazz band playing. For those of you who haven't been around Madelyn recently she LOVES music and has now started to dance and wiggle to it.
We put her on the floor right in front of the band and they decided to play a song for her. (The rubber ducky song) She went nuts over it.
While this was happening she created a small crowd around her.
The entire weekend was so much fun and we were so happy that we were able to bring her back to a place where one of our most favorite pictures were taken.

Peas, Carrots, Squash, Dog Food?
For those of you who don't know, I make Madelyn's baby food. Nearly every Sunday or Monday morning Im boiling, steaming, processing, and freezing food for her. I can't really describe how much I really enjoy doing it. (parenthood changed me to love the small things I suppose) but as any dog owner knows, pups can be quite annoying following you around the kitchen waiting for that one crumb to fall.
I cant be too upset that the dogs will eat anything that falls to the floor. The way I look at it, Madelyn at some point will be throwing the dogs food or making a mess of some sort so why not get the pups stomachs ready for it? Or go one step further, It will be less cleanup for me when they are more than willing to do it after she's thrown a whole plate of peas onto the floor.
As of right now I'll take the annoyance of being followed around by two (always starving!) dogs if it means less clean up down the road. The only thing right now is after she's eaten they'll think its their job to clean off her face even after I've already done it.

She Has a Mind of Her Own
I know it has been forever since my last update. I have no excuse.
If you have checked my Facebook in the last few days im sorry that you will hear this again but it was so funny that I just have to share.
We give madelyn a bath upstairs now due to all the splashing that was happening in the kitchen. When Matthew is home one of us will start the bath while the other gets her ready to go in.

This normally happens upstairs and house rules are that Roxie and Sammy are not allowed up there. Roxie has snuck up SLOWLY while this is going on. Many nights I have told her "No paws on the carpet" She sulks at first....
Then the other night while Madelyn was in the bath Roxie had her paws up on the carpet wanting to come join. I again yelled at her about the No Paws on the Carpet rule so what does she do? She turns around and sits her butt on it. Paws and everything still on the wooden step. I wasnt able to catch this on camera unfortunetly but non the less what do you do? I can't yell at her since "Technically" she doesn't have her paws on there.
That dog really knows how to test me.
In other news we finally got Madelyn's six month pictures taken. Here is just a preview
